Nxabega, Okavango Delta Safari, Botswana

We stayed for a couple of days on a private reserve run by CCAfrica called Nxabega, located in the Okavango Delta.
On our way out of the Kalahari, we passed this typical village.
We drove back to Maun, and flew from there into the Okavango Delta.
CC Africa have a private reserve called Nxabega. The campsite is semi-permanent, and is moved every couple of months as the water levels change.
Our tent had a beautiful view of the Delta.
This photo was taken at the foot of our tent in the evening.
Some of the roads were a little questionable. This was the "Indiana Jones" component of the safari.

We were lucky enough to see this leopard up in a tree looking for prey in the brush.
She climbed down, and we followed her.
She climbed back up into another tree...
and posed...
for about 40 minutes.
Later that same drive, we came upon a pride of lions.
We saw our first baboons here.



The big round footprint is from an elephant. The smaller one is a size 6 men's shoe.
Getting stuck in the sand is a common occurence in the Delta. Here is Sam placing the wood that we had collected under the wheels to get us out.
Finally we saw a giraffe!

We saw hyenas on our night drive and listened to them crunching on the bones of a recent killl.

We went on our second mokoro trip through the Delta. This is a picture of the family who made up the other four members of our group.

I was trying to brush off this stick, when it started moving and I realized it was a praying mantis with the help of my wife who is much smarter than I am.


Everything is extreme in Botswana. Either extremely big, or extremely small. This is a reed frog.


See the thorns between the leaves? That's what the giraffes have to contend with. Apparently their tongues are up to the task.
