Our first stop in our CC Africa Mobile Tented Safari was Khumaga, on the western edge of the Makgadigadi salt pan.

Our first stop in our CC Africa Mobile Tented Safari was Khumaga, on the western edge of the Makgadigadi salt pan. This is a low-flying kudu. We saw helmeted guinea fowl almost everywhere we went. Male kudu. We saw many thousands of impala on our trip - but the first are always the cutest, and thus the most photographed. Electric fences separate the wildlife from the livestock. This controversial practice (which we saw in many places in Botswana) protects the game from being shot at by farmers protecting their animals. However, we still saw many animals make it through the fence - or die trying. Male steenbok. We saw many lilac breasted rollers - beautiful plumage. This herd of zebras and wildebeests numbered in the hundreds. This is a swallow-tailed bee-eater. As the day ended, we saw this herd of elephants taking a mud bath. We were lucky to be there at the only time of the year where hippos leave the water. A fish-eagle. Crocodile.
