>> Okapuka Game Park and Ranch outside Windhoek
We took a day trip to the Okapuka Ranch/Game Park on the outskirts of Windhoek. While some animals we saw were native to the park, others had been brought in.
Blesbok.
A salt lick had been placed for the animals.
Kudu.
Pumba.
.. and, the reason we went, to see the final of the "big five". The park has 4 white rhino.
They also have a couple of lions, but they are in semi-captivity. They are segregated from the other animals, and are fed every day while the tourists snap photos.
While it made for some great close-up shots, it still didn't compare to having seen them in the wild. We were told that the lions had been relocated from the wild because they had killed livestock, and would have been shot.
On our last night, we went to Joe's Beerhouse, where Ian tried zebra. Dark meat, light meat, dark meat, light meat.
