We flew to Paris Friday afternoon, arriving in the city just at around 3pm. Our first stop was the Musee de Cluny, which is dedicated to the Middle Ages. Next, we visited the Pantheon, which was originally a Roman temple, later a church, and finally remade by the Revolution into a mausoleum of heroes. Voltaire, Rousseau, Hugo, Zola, Braille and the Curies are all buried here.

Apparently the Foucault's Pendulum demonstrates the rotation of the earth. Friday evening we went for a walk along the Seine. It was a lovely warm evening. Notre Dame at night. Saturday morning we took the train to Giverny, to visit Monet's house. We were incredibly lucky and the weather was hot and sunny. Ok, so maybe he did a little bit more with his backyard than we've done so far with ours, but just wait... Back in Paris we visited the Sainte Chappelle. Construction began in 1241. The Lower Chapel is modest and unassuming. The Upper Chapel pictured here was formerly reserved for royalty and their court. The stained glass is mainly original, and even though it was late in the day when we were there, it was amazing. The ceiling is painted blue and covered with gold stars. That evening we took a boat trip on the Seine.
