Iceland (Rekjavik)

Our first stop on our trip was Reykjavik, Iceland. We stopped over for a few days at no extra cost. On the way there, we got a free upgrade to business class because they were the only seats left. Two bulkhead seats, best seats on the plane. We felt we were playing dress-up. We still have the slippers!

Arriving in Iceland. I believe the smoke you can see in the background is from the Blue Lagoon. It's a good story, at any rate.
We visited the National Gallery so we could feel cultured.
Árbæjarsafn Open-Air Folk Museum was one of our first stops. The folk museum was an interesting collection of old buildings detailing the history of Iceland, with some very honest admissions of a lot of mistakes that have been made.

What was ironic was that we saw this same scene being played out in Turkey later on, but not for show!

Back downtown, this is a view from the lake.

Out for dinner at Thrir Frakkar Hja Ulfari. (That was a mouthful). So was this puffin.
Hallgrimskirkja, a cathedral at the top of a hill, dominates over much of downtown Reykjavik. This was the only blue sky we saw while we were there.
We got a great view of the colourful downtown from the top.
The next day we took the Golden Circle Tour. Here is a picture of the Gullfoss waterfall.

Did I mention it was just a little cold?
We stopped at a kitschy souvenir shop in a greenhouse. I liked this little guy though.
Geothermal fields on the tour.
It's no Old Faithful, but it was a lot more regular (5 minutes).
Inside Iceland's oldest church.
Thingvellir is where the Icelandic parliament was formed. The PM still spends his summer in the middle house seen here.
The Big Divide

Wendy looking very cold outside Thingvellir.
Ahhh, much better. This is the Blue Lagoon, which is actually the runoff of a power plant. Not a bad runoff.
