Tuz Golu is a salt lake in the dry central plateau of Turkey.
We visited the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. The emphasis here was on quality, not quantity, and the whole museum was laid out in a chronological order. It won the European Museum of the Year award in 1997.
We got completely lost trying to find the Hisar (Citadel). We could see the old city walls....
But we never found our way to the actual site.
Looking out onto the city.
We took this picture while we were lost.
And this picture. It reminded us of some of the houses we'd seen in France.
The traffic lights have timers on them to let pedestrians know how long they have to cross. And people couldn't stop laughing at us for taking a photo of a traffic light.
We explored a market right next to the Hisar.
Downtown Ankara.
Our next stop was the Kocatepe Mosque, back near our hotel.
It's built right above a modern shopping mall!
Inside the mosque. It was beautiful, and there were no tourists. It was very peaceful, and we felt like we'd experienced a mosque like it was meant to be.
Right outside the mosque there was a Turkish Pizza Pizza joint. Sure looked like the chain back in Canada...
Here's the Otogar in Ankara (bus station). It is one of the largest in the world, and looked (and felt) a lot more like an airpor then a bus station.
