Welcome to Madrid. This was the last city we visited on our tour of Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. At this point we were pretty tired of European cities, but this means fewer photos to look at! Here is an outside shot of the Palacio Real.
This is the Templo de Debod, the only Egypptian temple in Spain. It was shipped over as a Thank You for helping with saving buildings from flooding.
The Palacio Real, and behind it, the Catedral de Almudena. The Palacio is still unfinished, but is occasionally used by the King and Queen for shindigs.
Inside the Catedral de Almudena, a modern cathedral with bright frescoes.
Inside the Palacio Real, the descent to the crypt.
The Throne Room contains a beautiful fresco, painted by Tiepolo, outlining the qualities of the perfect ruler.
This is a train station Atocha, complete with its own tropical forest. This has to be the coolest train station we've ever been in. Except Orsay. But that's not a train station any more. Anyways...
The Parque del Buen Retiro is a nicely manicured park just outside the downtown area.
The Post Office. Nice, eh?
I guess the Spanish are a little tired of Hemingway.
This is Plaza Mayor.
Puerta de Toledo, just outside the park.
