We spent a weekend in Andorra, just a short drive away from southern France.  The mountain scenery was stunning, and the hiking we did was beautiful.  The capital was not our thing, with high end shopping being the main focus.…

Anguilla was an easy hop from St. Martin.  Finding reasonable backpacker-friendly accommodation was a challenge, but we found a great hotel just a 5 minute walk from one of the most beautiful beaches on the island (East Shoal Bay).…

We spent a Christmas in Antigua, and found it to be an inexpensive Caribbean island with a lot to offer.  We didn’t have much luck with the weather, unfortunately, but there are no guarantees – even in the dry season.…

We really enjoyed our time on the beach in Aruba.  We wouldn’t recommend it for anyone wanting a grand cultural experience, but if you’re looking for guaranteed sunshine, great beaches, lots of big hotels with fancy pools, and a pretty downtown to spend a day or so in R

We had a great time in Austria.  It was the perfect mix of cultural sights, amazing natural wonders, and very inexpensive.…

We went to the Bahamas on our honeymoon.   We split our time between the Sandals in Nassau and Club Med Columbus Isle on one of the out-islands (San Salvador).  Although we couldn’t wait to leave the Sandals, the Club Med remains one of the most amazing resorts we’ve ever

Belgium was one of the first countries we ever visited.  Brussels didn’t do much for us, but we really enjoyed Bruges.…

We’ve been all the world, and seen all kinds of amazing things, but Botswana is by far the best trip we’ve ever taken.  On the camping safari, we saw spectacular scenery and an unbelievable amount of wildlife.  …

Brunei was a very fun detour from our time in Malaysia.  It was a bit difficult to get to but we enjoyed being virtually the only tourists, and spending a day at the Jerudong Park – at the time a completely empty amusement park (almost post-apocalyptic!) modeled after Disneyland

Cambodia was a real treat.  We only visited Siem Reap to see the Angkor Wat area, but were amazed at the kindness of everyone we met and would love to go back one day.…

China is one of our favourite countries.  We had a great time traveling around, we were treated very well as independent backpackers, and really enjoyed the sights.  The food was wonderful and the prices were low.…

We really enjoyed the couple of weeks we spent in Costa Rica.  We got around with a tourist bus system in combination with a couple of flights and we were able to cover a lot of ground in 2 weeks.…

We spent Christmas/New Years in Curacao.  Although our choice of hotel (the Hilton Curacao) was a miss, we did still enjoy the island and our time there.…

The Czech Republic was full of surprises for us.  From amazing old towns like Český Krumlov and Trebic to the amazing geological formations of Cesky Raj, we had a great time.  …

We visited Denmark after taking a night train from Oslo to Copenhagen. It was a very peaceful visit, bicycling on Funen (Fyn), Legoland, and checking out Tivoli Gardens – we had a great time.…

Dominica really surprised us.  Although it’s lack of white sand beaches mean it’s not on the traditional tourist route, the stunning natural scenery of the island and wealth of sights to explore make it one of our favourite Caribbean destinations.  …

Egypt has sights unlike anywhere else in the world.  It is, however, very challenging to enjoy as an independent traveller. Tourists have been visiting the Pyramids for thousands of years, and locals have been devising ways to extract money from tourists for a similar amount of time!&

We spent most of our time in Estonia around Tallinn, where most of the attractions are. It still felt pretty undiscovered – even in peak tourist season we often found ourselves walking alone down pretty old cobbled streets.…

We’ve been to Germany many times, as there are great connections to our gateway city of San Francisco.  Munich stands out as our favourite big city, but we’ve had a great time exploring some of the smaller towns as well.…
