Home >> Asia >> Korea >> Seoraksan National Park and Seorak Mountain, South Korea

We visited Seoraksan National Park. It took about 6 hours to get there from Seoul. Apart from a temple complex, there is also a lot of hiking in the surrounding area. The mountains surrounding Seoraksan are beautiful. Since we were there in the summer, the weather was predictably cloudy, unfortunately, but once in a while the sun broke through and gave us a great view. We took a cablecar up Seorak Mountain. Although we were warned there could be long lineups, we walked right on. The view on the way up gave us a good overview of the temple and Buddha we would explore when we came back down. The view from the cable car was pretty foggy, unfortunately. The cablecar drops you off at a building with a cafe, a restaurant, and a path out the back leading up to the viewpoint. It's only a 10 minute easy climb. This is the path up the mountain. Very, very accessible. This is the view from the top of Mt. Seorak. View on the way back down the mountain The tiles could be bought and they provided a marker so you can write a prayer/note on them. They would then be used in the construction of new buildings. The giant stone Buddah was very impressive. The signs made it almost impossible to get lost in the park. And of course, they were in English and Korean. Stone bridge on the way to the temple On our way out of the park, we stopped at a restaurant (that was just closing up, unfortunately) and enjoyed a beer and the beautiful view of the surrounding scenery. Although we didn't see much wildlife, we did see this bird perched in the distance We stayed about a 45 minute walk (or 5 minute bus drive, and the buses are very frequent) from the main park entrance. This is the hotel right nedt to ours, the "Hillton" Scenery on the way in to Seoraksan National Park
