Morning Tai Chi. You see this everywhere. Rong Lake. We think. Reed Flute Park, Reed Flute Cave. Formed nearly one million years ago, and the only place in Guilin that was a reasonable temperature. The Let's Go talked about "garish neon lights, at times making the cave appear more like a movie set than anything else." We weren't disappointed. The best part are the signs to "explain" the formations. You have to move quickly, though - they light up only as the tour guides go by, so you have to be ready. A view from the park the cave is in overlooking "Fragrant Lotus Pool." Downtown Guilin has this great little pedestrian zone. We loved it. We think it was called Zhengyang Lu. We stayed just off this street, still in the pedestrian zone. Just one of the many, many, many reasons to love the pedestrian zone. For those of you with rusty Chinese, that sign just inside the store is telling you that DVDs are 5 yuan each. Or roughly 65 cents US. And you can try them out on their TV before you buy, and buy, and buy...Did we mention we had a lot of fun in Guilin? And I think they loved us just as much as we loved them... Jiefang Bridge, over the Li river. Binjiang Lu, along the Li river, downtown Guilin. Public gym, of course in full use. Gee, we wonder why Jenny Craig hasn't caught on in China... The night market. Zhongshan Zhong Lu. Kids playing in Century Square. Unfortunately our guide book didn't tell us the Chinese name, and since we used that as a landmark to find the hotel, it made it impossible to take a cab there. Very frustrating. Little motorised cars. You see these in lots of public squares at night. They really come alive with tons of kids and families everywhere. It's really awesome. More nighttime action. Never mind Disneyland... Pagodas in the middle of downtown.
