After about 24 hours of sitting on the boat, it was finally our turn to go through the locks. In typical Egyptian fashion, the whole process is completely unorganised. All the boats leave Luxor heading south on Mondays, and wind up at the locks together, so there's a huge queue. Apparently it's been as bad as having to wait 48 hours to get through. So in a 4 day cruise, it's not unusual to spend a quarter of it sitting in an industrial area waiting to get through the locks.
