I'm hoping to visit Yangshuo and Longshen over a weekend. Quick visit (from nearby Hengyang in the Hunan province, where I'll be for about one month this summer), but certainly looks worthwhile. I'm looking forward to gathering more tips from your blog. Thanks for sharing your blog and photos. I may write back with a question or two after I've read more thoroughly.

Hi Les,

We were there in July. It was a very dramatic time - but it's very hot, so we hope you like the heat! It wasn't actually that hot in Longshen itself, because it's at elevation, but the rest of China was toasty.

Happy travels,

Ian and Wendy

What time of year did you go to Longshen. I am interested in the terraced ricefields when they are planting the new shoots, and the fields show a lot of water as in your photos. From your slides it apears a very dramatic time.
