We stayed at the Ma Bass Gues House in Roseau, which was one of the few affordable options in the middle of town. The location was great. Arriving was a little difficult – it was 7pm and dark and there was no clear door to get in. So we banged on all the locked doors, and finally someone answered, and found Ma Bass for us – an elderly lady who is very kind. The first two nights we were there, the guesthouse was very full, and Ma Bass really had her hands full taking care of everyone – at times her stress began to show, but she really did try to take care of us well.

Breakfast wasn’t too expensive, we ordered the night before and told Ma Bass what we wanted – eggs, toast, juice, and bacon ran about $10 US per person.

The room was very clean and spacious. The hot water was not great – when the guesthouse was full we didn’t have any hot water, morning or night. Ma Bass told us she needed to buy another hot water heater, and set us up with a bucket of hot water which helped take the edge off – but paying $60 US a night with no hot water was irritating. On our final nights, when it emptied out a little and the strain on the solar hot water heater was less, we had lots of hot water.

There is a common kitchen, and lots of friendly other backpackers, yachties, and pilots we had good conversations with. Our room, on the top story, was spacious, clean, and had some nice views of the town.
