On the accordian bus to Tattooine. Star Wars was actually filmed elsewhere (for example in Matmata) but George stole the name from Tattooine. This is the public intercity bus. It was a strange thing, in Medenine (about half way) it turns into a local bus for a while, then eventually pops out the other side and continues on to Tatooine. This was a real highlight of the trip for both of us. Just outside Tatooine is Ksar Ouled Sultane. The old ghorfa's (granaries) rise four storeys up. 'You want me to come up there??' On our way back to town in our guide's ('Ali Baba') car. The next day we visited the ruins of Chenini. It is a Ksour (fortified Berber stronghold) hill village. We arrived early in the morning and had the place to ourselves. Next up was Douiret, with more ksar. It's in worse shape than Chenini. Apparently it's much quieter tour-group-wise, but both places were deserted when we visited. On our way back to town we visited a relatively recently abandoned Ksar, the Ksar Ouled Debbab. Still in the Ksar Ouled Debbab. Our guide and Wendy. He was as crazy as he looks, but he was a good guide and left us alone to explore the sites. Looking back at Ksar Ouled Debbab.
