3 Great Toddler Travel Toys

Toddlers are endlessly curious and active.  Keeping them busy while traveling means keeping them out of trouble and keeping your sanity!  Even though we’ve been keeping close to home since the recent birth of our son, we’ve still had plenty of use for these great toys.  We shudder to think what an afternoon of wine tasting would be like without great travel toys, or even a trip to the supermarket!

Here are our latest “finds” for great toddler travel toys:

Relaxing at a winery with some of her Indestructibles books. Washable and super durable, these make a great toddler travel toy, at home or on the road.

1) Indestructibles – These are seriously THE most exciting travel toy – EVER.  Ok, technically, they’re books.  But they’re made out of a special type of paper that is super durable.  Apparently, it can withstand chewing.  We have yet to test that feature (though we’re sure our new little one will, soon enough!) but we can say that they have seen lots of use and have yet to tear, or even look worn.  There is no cover – the entire book is made out of the same special paper.  This makes them exceedingly lightweight – perfect for travel of any kind (whether it’s a flight or a trip to the grocery store).  For a recent afternoon of wine tasting, Wendy had 4 of them tucked into her purse – no problem.  Try that with board books!  If you’re not sold already, did we mention they’re washable?  That’s right.  A book that can go in the washing machine.  Genius!  We (and our “tester” – our 25-month-old daughter) love the bright colors and innovative twists on familiar nursery rhymes.  (Humpty Dumpty falls off the Great Wall and Mary and her little lamb live in Africa).  There are no words, but really, our toddler’s “reading” doesn’t require any.

2) Disney Princess Grab & Go Play Pack – Be ready to go at a moment’s notice – or just leave one in your purse (sorry guys – your wife’s purse) and you’ll always be prepared!  A small coloring book, stickers and a pack of four crayons all in it’s own re-sealable plastic bag.  Genius!  The low price means you can always grab a new one, so you won’t mind when Junior accidentally decorates it with the marinara sauce.  Going out to dinner with friends who also have kids?  Pack a few extra and you might just actually get in an adult conversation!  Also available in a “boy” version.  These now go everywhere  with us!  (We found them in the dollar section at Target – so be on the lookout!)

3) Alphaberry PDA – Satisfy those little button loving fingers with this alphabet teaching toy.  Yes, it does make noise – but it’s not loud enough to bother fellow passengers on the plane and we’ve comfortably had many conversations while it was being played with in the stroller.  It comes with a wrist band attached – perfect for tethering it to the stroller or a seatbelt on the plane.  We bought ours at Target (where they’re much cheaper than the Amazon price).

Done some traveling with your toddler?  Discovered something that keeps them busy and happy?  We’d love to hear about a toddler travel toy you love!  Please share!
