Peregrine Wines lived up to its slogan, “wine with attitude” right from our first sight of the cellar door/tasting room.  Housed in an extremely modern building sunken into the beautiful Central Otago landscape, this is definitely a winery with personality.  Leading down from the beautiful mountainous scenery of the Gibbston Valley, a long gravel path gives way to a cement ramp that takes you down to the cellar door/tasting room door.  Inside, the industrial feel of concrete and glass walls is balanced by the hundreds of oak wine barrels lying in the cellar facing the bar.

We tasted the:

2005 Riesling – Not as fruity as we’d hoped.

2006 Rastaburn Riesling, $23NZD – Fruitier than the other Riesling, very light, not stellar.

2008 Chardonnay – Not our taste.

2009 Sauvignon Blanc, $23NZD – Very nice bouquet with plenty of citrus, clean tasting, fruity.

Peregrine Wines' slogan is "Wine with Attitude". Sunken into New Zealand's stunning Central Otago landscape, their cellar door/tasting room certainly lives up to it!

2008 Gewurztraminer, $23NZD – Very nice, clean finish.

2008 Karearea Pinot Gris, $35NZD – Nothing special to us.

2007 Karearea Pinot Noir – One of the best Pinot Noir’s we tasted in New Zealand.  Still not quite enough fruit for us.

2006 Peregrine Pinot Noir – Not as clean a finish as the Karearea.
