The Wine Room is a tasting room run by a group of different wineries.  They carry a wide selection of the region’s wines and it was an easy way to find out about a lot of different New Zealand wine at once.  (Not that driving from winery to winery along the beautiful roads in the lovely Marlborough countryside was a hardship, exactly!)  It’s a great way to compare wines from different wineries.

We tasted the:

Tohu 2008 Un-oaked Chardonnay – It had a clean finish and we thought it was okay, but it lacked the fruitiness we were hoping for.

Kim Crawford 2008 Un-oaked Zinfandel – We had high hopes but found the finish wasn’t clean and the wine was unspectacular at best.

Tohu 2009 Riesling – Okay.

Omaka Springs 2009 Pinot Gris  – Very nice!

Tohu 2009 Sauvignon Blanc – Very good!

St. Luke’s 2008 Sauvignon Blanc – A little too dry for our taste.  Not as good as the Tohu.

Summerhouse 2006 Pinot Noir – Light aftertaste, unspectacular.  We kept trying to get excited about New Zealand Pinot Noir but once again, we failed.

As you can see, there was a lot of different wine available to taste and we enjoyed being able to compare them.
