Home >> Asia >> Korea >> Andong >> Hahoe Folk Village, South Korea

We took a bus out to Hahoe Folk Village, which was one of the highlights of Andong for us. It's about an hour outside of the city. It involved a weird combination of buses (although it didnt on the way back). The village is not that back and definitely walkable, but this family chose to ride in style. There was lots of signs and explanations for the building. However, there wasn't much else to see - no demonstrations of traditional living. These drawers were used for storing medicines. We stopped for tea at? a traditional house. It was pretty horrible tea, with lots of gestures back and forth with the owner of the house to communicate. But that's what traveling is all about, right? Signs were great. Whenever you go inside a house, it is absolutely necessary to take off your shoes and wear slippers. These were provided for us. They didn't really fit our feet though! Everywhere we went, there were vending machines. In the most unlikely places, another vending machine... The fence is full of prayers/ notes that people have written. Slightly different meaning for GM food! Next to the village, there is a river and a small hill on the other side that we saw people climbing. A water taxi slowly paddled people back and forth across the banks. There is a lotus flower pond close to where the bus drops you off, at the entrance to the village. Closeup of lotus flower.
